Khorshīd is a boutique yoga & meditation studio founded by Omid Oloumi

Its name, which means “the sun,” comes from an ancient Persian solar goddess, who gives life to the Earth and all beings.

Vision

Khorshīd promotes a mindful lifestyle, through accessible classes in postural yoga, breathwork, meditation and yoga philosophy. Omid’s vision is to guide us to the sun within our hearts.

Khorshīd combines the best of Eastern and Western wisdom, offering practices that improve the quality of our everyday lives. Our community facilitates connections – to ourselves and to others. It was born in a spirit of sharing, providing a space where we can gather together for collective healing and growth.

Practices & Policies

To ensure everyone can practice, we ask you to cancel or reschedule your booking if you are not able to attend.

Studio access starts 10 minutes before a class, and ends 10 minutes afterwards. Late entry is not permitted to respect others’ practice.

Here are our cancellation policies:

Yoga & Meditation

Cancellation within 12 hours before the class begins can be refunded. 

Cancellations after 12 hours and up to 3 hours before the class begins cannot be refunded but can be rescheduled for any class with the same teacher within that month. 

Please Change or Cancel your class reservation from the confirmation or reminder email that was sent to you after your booking.

If you wish to reschedule after 12 hours and up to 3 hours, please email info@khorshid.yoga

No-shows means you are not eligible for a refund.

Workshops

If you cannot attend a workshop you signed up for, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance. You will be credited the full amount of the workshop cost towards a future workshop. Cancellations within a 24 hour period cannot be credited.

We are not able to refund workshops and no-shows means you are not eligible for a refund.

Omid Oloumi & Meditation Classes in New York

Omid oloumi

Omid Oloumi, is the founder and director of Khorshīd.

She is a teacher of Hatha yoga, yoga nidra for a decade and leads daily meditation sessions and conscious breathwork at Khorshīd in addition to designing all the programs.

Raised in France, with Persian heritage, she has had the privilege to study with accomplished yoga and meditation masters in France and the USA. She is a Yoga Alliance registered teacher with more than 1600 hours of training in yoga and mindfulness meditation. She holds a master’s degree in International Law from France. Fluent in English, French and Persian.

Omid is deeply grateful to all of her teachers, including John Campbell PhD and Eddie Stern – her earliest guides to Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in New York City. She thanks David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Mary Taylor, Colleen Saidman, Rodney Yee, and Leslie Kaminoff for the impact they have had on her teaching over years.

She draws inspiration from Zen and Tibetan Buddhist lineages, having studied with Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chödrön, Robert Thurman, Michele Lowe, Scott Tusa, Megan Mook and Michael Aranoff.

Omid is forever grateful for Georg Feuerstein PhD and Daniel Simpson for showing her the depth of the historical and philosophical aspects of Indian traditions. Also she is thankful to Zoë Slatoff PhD, for her teaching of Sanskrit.

Khorshīd Sunrise

Start your day mindfully with empowering rounds of sun salutations. Awaken the warmth of the sun within for a more joyful day.

Khorshīd Gentle

A slower, more mindful approach with less intense postures and more time for breathwork, meditation and relaxation.

Dynamic Flow

A more energetic class with music and heated. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga inspired moves and body weight exercises. You will gain strength with intense mindful movement and will heat up with the power of your Breathwork.

Nidra Flow

Finish your day with deep relaxation . Yoga Nidra is the conscious state between wakefulness and sleep, providing a restorative sense of wellbeing through present moment awareness.

Breathe & Be

This mid-day one hour breathwork and meditation class is inspired by ancient and modern breathwork methods as well as indo-tibetan Buddhist meditation traditions.

Each session might focus on mindfulness or compassion or a mix of both.

Book Circle

A gathering, combining practice and discussion about an inspiring book. 90 Minutes including 10 minute meditation at the beginning and at the end.


 

Our teachers

 

Jean Brown

Jean Brown is a level three certified TriYoga® instructor with many years of experience in teaching TriYoga® in New York City and the suburban area.

She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in private practice, who loves acting and directing in her free time.

Christine Copley

Christine has practiced yoga for 30 years and has 600 hours of yoga training in Hatha, Vinyasa, Bhakti and Kids yoga. She is a K-12 English as a Second Language teacher and actress.

Recently she has studied Bioenergetic Healing with Healer Anton Baraschi and continues to explore the world of light energy work. Christine believes practicing yoga aligns the mind, body and spirit & inspires courage, creativity & love.

She is teaching Gentle Yoga classes at Khorshīd. Book here

Dana Olson

Dana Olson is an experienced certified Iyengar teacher with many years of practice and teaching under the direction of Jeff Logan and other master teachers of the Iyengar Method in New York area.

Dana is also a classical flutist and enjoys playing flute in her free time.

She is leading the Iyengar yoga program at Khorshīd. Book here

Cynthia Hendricks

Cynthia leads her classes from a spiritual and energetic perspective,  incorporating breathwork and meditation. She has studied intuitive healing, breathwork, and energy medicine. Recently, she has studied Bioenergetic Healing with healer Anton Baraschi and the path of Kriya Yoga, teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda yoga at Ananda Institute. She is a long time spiritual seeker who also has a Law degree and a practice of Wholistic Divorce Mediation.

Guest Teachers

 

John Campbell, PhD.

John R.B. Campbell PhD is a translator, editor, and researcher of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. He is currently working on a multi-volume translation of Indian and Tibetan commentaries on the Guhyasamaja Tantra, a key Buddhist tantric scripture. In addition to his longtime study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism. he has been for thirty years a practitioner and teacher of Ashtanga Yoga Viniyasa method under the direction of the late K. Pattabhi Jois.

John Campbell, is teaching workshops on the inner and outer aspects of Ashtanga yoga Vinyasa method at Khorshīd, as well as yoga philosophy, history and Tibetan Buddhist meditation. Book here

Dia Dearstyne

Dia Dearstyne is a teacher of yoga, a dancer, and a mom. She leads her yoga classes through dynamic and accessible asana, breathwork and meditation. 

She completed her 500 hour training through Yoga Vida NYC and 85hr Prenatal Yoga certification and Postnatal training through the Prenatal Yoga Center. She is an expert in pre and postnatal yoga.

Maria RubinatE

Maria Rubinate has been teaching Yoga and related subjects in the New York area since the 1990's. She was a student of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and family for 25 years and continues to be inspired by the Krishnamacarya lineage. Recently she completed her doctoral training in Āyurvedic medicine with Boston Āyurveda and I- AIM Hospital in Yelehanka, India.
